One Day.

If I were my own best friend I would sit myself down and read a little bit of Charles Dickens…

“Imagine one day struck out of your life,

and think how different its course would have been.

Pause you who read this,

and think for a moment of the long chain of iron or gold, of thorns and flowers,

that would never have bound you,

but for the formation of the first link on one memorable day.”

— Charles Dickens

***All it takes is one day, one moment, one interaction and your life may be changed forever. I love the power of this idea. It only takes a second and the course of your life, instead of heading West, has now veered and is heading Southeast. Such opportunity!

Think back on your life. Do you see the pivotal moments, the links of gold, or the chains of flowers? Did you know your life had completely changed in that moment? Or did you only see the “first links” with the help of hindsight?

In my life I find I have often missed the moment when “the link” was first set or at least failed to recognize its import. Except for once. It was the weekend I met my husband. I knew immediately that my life would never be the same and for that I am quite grateful. Happy Anniversary (a few days late) and here’s to  making more memories and “links” on the chain in the years to come!

  1. strange that applying band-aids and laughing about shorts worn backwards could start such a wonderful chain!
